Self-Tanning Tips for Dry Skin

Self-Tanning Tips for Dry Skin

Got dry skin? If you’ve grown up loving the sun a bit too much, chances are you are reaping the consequences of staying under the sun longer than you should have over the years. Or maybe you’ve inherited it from your lovely mum, which she too received from generations before her. Or perhaps the winter cold has turned your skin into nightmarish scales and you can’t get it under control.

Whatever the case, self-tanning becomes a bit of a pain for those dry bits because bronzing products tend to cling more to dry skin, resulting in an uneven and patchy tan. Luckily, we’ve got the tips and tricks you need if you are struggling to get that healthy and hydrated glow.

Make pre-tan pampering prep a must.

If your skin is on the dry side, you have the perfect excuse to indulge yourself with a long, relaxing, and ultra hydrating bath. (Not to mention this is the perfect way for you to carve out some me-time.) Prepare your tub with warm water and use your favourite bath bomb or bath milk to get your hydration game moving in the right direction. Wine optional.

Once you’re finished enjoying your warm soak, take your favorite body scrub or exfoliation mitt and gently slough off dead skin cells. This will help create a smooth and clean canvas for the self-tanner to do its magic on.

After exfoliating, grab your most hydrating moisturiser and lather on your skin. Pick one that has jojoba and vitamin E to give your skin more nourishment and keep it hydrated longer.

Wait a few hours before applying your self-tanner to make sure the products have settled into your skin well. Trust us when we say that this will make a world of a difference.

Pick out the right self-tanner.

Not all self-tanners are created equal. To get the best glow for your buck, you have to pick out a self-tanner that suits your skin type. For dry skin, we recommend going for one that has a water base such as Choc Coconut, which uses coconut water and is supercharged with antioxidants to restore skin hydration.

Gently and evenly apply the self-tanner using an applicator mitt to get that perfectly even glow. Make sure you leave no tricky crevice unconquered by using a kabuki brush.

Maintain, maintain, maintain.

They say change happens in increments, so it is absolutely important that you commit to a skincare routine to keep your tan in mint condition. In order to keep your glow and your skin supple, we recommend using the Afterglow Tanning Drops. Just add a few drops into your favourite moisturiser and apply to your face and body to keep your tan from fading out too fast.
Best part? You get the bronze and the hydration all in one fell swoop.

Bronzing aside, have a steady moisturising routine to keep your skin in good condition (we recommend having one for the day and another one for night time). If you’re unfamiliar with which moisturiser to use, start with ones that have quality ingredients and see what works with your skin type best.

Remember: moisturising regularly allows your tan to stay on longer and fade more evenly.
